Mathias Herzog, the son of the late Maurice Herzog who set the world record for his first ascent of Mount Annapurna (8,091 meters) was honoured here today.
Maurice Herzog is the first person to climb the Annapurna-I. The French national summated Mt Annapurna on June 3, 1950, three years before the first successful expedition of Mount Everest.
The Pokhara Tourism Council honoured him at an event organised to welcome the arrivals of the Bada Dashain, Tihar, and Chhath festivals. Gandaki Province Minister for Social Development, Bindu Kumar Thapa was present on the occasion.
The Minister said the development of the tourism industry is the priority of the government considering it as one of the major bases for bringing prosperity to the country.
Council President Taranath Pahari pledged to promote cooperation among all the stakeholders concerned while former President Bachchuram Tiwari urged the State to implement a tourism-friendly policy.
