kathmandu: Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Damodar Bhandari, has proposed to form a special task force to find solutions to the long-standing issues of sugarcane farmers and sugar industries. During his meeting with office-bearers from the Nepal Sugar Mills Industries Association at his office today, the Minister proposed formation of a task force including the participation of stakeholders concerned.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the proposed task force would be led by a joint secretary at the Ministry and would include representatives from sugar industries, sugarcane farmers, sugar suppliers, and the National Salt Trading Corporation. The aim of this task force is to address and find sustainable solutions to the challenges faced by those involved in the sugarcane supply chain.
The delegation, led by Association President Shashikant Agrawal, raised concerns regarding the smuggling of sugar from India, which impacts local industries. They also urged the government to provide hybrid
seeds to sugarcane farmers to enhance crop yield.
