NEW YORK: The Nepali Congress Public Liaison Committee hosted a program in New York City to commemorate National Reconciliation Day, emphasizing the role of reconciliation in political development and social transformation. The event featured discussions on leveraging skills, capital, and technology acquired abroad to aid Nepal’s prosperity.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Kiran Paudel, a central member of the Nepali Congress, addressed the gathering and highlighted the enduring importance of national reconciliation for advancing political and social change. He underscored the potential benefits of integrating resources and expertise gained overseas into Nepal’s development framework.
During the event, representatives from various organizations across the United States called on the Nepalese government to establish a clear policy regarding the citizenship status of expatriate Nepalis worldwide. The need for such a policy was a central theme, reflecting growing concerns within the diaspora community.
Anand Bista, Chairman of the Committee, along with other notable figures such as former Nepal Press Union president Samirjung Shah and Congress mahasamiti member Kanchha Lama, addressed issues faced by expatriate Nepalis. They urged the Nepalese government to address these concerns, particularly those related to citizenship, and emphasized the necessity of finding effective solutions.
