Dhaka: Stock markets today finished the session of the week flat as the major indices of both Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges showed slight declines amid lower activities of large-cap securities. DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, edged down by 1.0 point to settle at 5,151 points compared to 5,152 points in the previous trading session.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, trading activities remained stagnant with total turnover in DSE decreasing by 11.7 percent to Taka 3.5 billion, down from Taka 4.0 billion in the previous session. On the sectoral front, Pharma issues accounted for the highest turnover at 15.6 percent, followed by Engineering at 13.5 percent and Bank sectors at 12.1 percent.
Most of the sectors displayed mixed returns. Notably, Jute showed a gain of 3.6 percent, Engineering rose by 3.2 percent, and Services increased by 2.4 percent. Conversely, Telecom experienced a decline of 1.5 percent, Life Insurance fell by 0.5 percent, and Financial Institutions saw a decrease of 0.4 percent. Out of the 397 issues traded, 181 advanced, 130 declined, and 86 remained unchanged.
The port city bourse, CSE, also settled on a downward trend. The Selective Categories’ Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) decreased by 9.9 and 16.9 points, respectively.
