Two Arrested in Chattogram for Shooting During July Uprising

Chattogram: Police arrested two activists of the Bangladesh Chhatra League and Jubo League on charges of shooting during the Anti-Discrimination Students Movement on August 4. The arrested individuals are Rivu Majumder, 27, an activist of BCL, and Md Jamal, 40, an activist of Jubo League. They were sent to jail through a court order.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, acting on a tip-off, police conducted a drive in the Shaymoli residential area in the city last night, leading to the arrest of the two suspects. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandgaon Police Station Aftab Ahmed stated that video footage showed the duo opening fire on protesters during the student-led mass uprising on August 4.

The arrested individuals have initially confessed that over 15 to 16 BCL-Jubo League members were involved in the attack. “We are trying to arrest them and recover arms and ammunition,” the OC added.
