Laxmipur: The U-17 National Gold Cup Football tournament (boys’ and girls’) began here today. The tournament is being held at the district stadium ground on the occasion of the Youth Festival, under the theme ‘Let’s change the country, change the world.’
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event is organized by the district administration and district sports office. Lakshmipur Deputy Commissioner Rajib Kumar Sarkar formally inaugurated the tournament as the chief guest by releasing balloons. The national anthem was played during the inauguration ceremony.
Seven teams are participating in the tournament. The inaugural ceremony was attended by Superintendent of Police Md. Akhter Hossain, district sports officer Jahangir Hossain, sports organizer Abdur Rob Shamim, journalist Abbas Hossain, district football federation vice president Advocate Mohsin Kabir Swapan, its general secretary Sohail Adnan, and municipal executive engineer Zulfikar Ali. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) JP Dewan chaired the ceremony.
