Construction of Savar Sports Complex Halted Due to Irregularities: Advisor

Savar: The construction of a sports complex intended for individuals with special needs in Savar has been halted due to non-compliance with established rules and regulations, as stated by Sharmeen S Murshid, an adviser to the social welfare ministry.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Sharmeen S Murshid highlighted various irregularities linked to Abdullah Al Mamun, the project director of the Sports Complex for People with Special Needs. The government is actively addressing corruption, which has led to the suspension of ongoing construction work in Savar.

Sharmeen S Murshid made these remarks during the inauguration of the 18th National Youth Conference 2025, organized by Youth Ending Hunger Bangladesh, held at Gonoshasthaya Kendra in Baishmail, Savar. She emphasized that halting the project serves as a significant penalty, noting that several similar projects have already been suspended.

Additionally, she affirmed that any project found to be involved in corrupt activities would also be stopped. Present at the event were Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder of Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik (SHUJAN) and head of the electoral reform commission, as well as Prashant Tripura, the interim country director of The Hunger Project Bangladesh, among others.

Approximately 800 young individuals from various regions of the country participated in the conference.
