Government Approves Procurement of Rock Phosphate, Fertilizer, Rice, and LNG


Dhaka: The government has given the green light to proposals for procuring 30,000 Metric Tons (MTs) of rock phosphate, 30,000 MTs of MOP fertilizer, 50,000 MTs of non-Basmati boiled rice, and one cargo of LNG to address the increasing demands within the country. These approvals were granted during the 7th meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase (ACCGP), which took place at the Cabinet Division Conference Room at Bangladesh Secretariat, chaired by Professor Wahiduddin Mahmud, the adviser to the interim government on the ministries of Education and Planning.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) will procure 30,000 MTs of rock phosphate for TSPCL from M/s Zentrade FZE, UAE, with the manufacturer being OCP S.A., Morocco. The procurement will cost approximately Taka 82.26 crore, with each MT of rock phosphate priced at US$228.50. This move follows a proposal from the Ministry of Industries.



In response to a proposal from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) is set to procure 30,000 MTs of MOP fertilizer under a state-level agreement from JSC “Foreign Economic Corporation (Prodintorg)” of Russia. This procurement will involve a cost of around Taka 107.78 crore, with each MT of fertilizer priced at $294.50.



Following a proposal from the Ministry of Food, the government will also procure 50,000 MTs of non-Basmati boiled rice from M/S Agrocrop International Pte Ltd, Singapore, under the international Open Tender Method (OTM). This purchase will cost approximately Taka 265.20 crore, with each MT of rice priced at $434.77.



Additionally, Petrobangla will procure one cargo of LNG from the spot market through the international quotation process from M/S OQ Trading Limited, UAE. This proposal, put forward by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, will cost around Taka 779.39 crore, with each MMBtu of LNG priced at $16.77.
