Travel Ban Imposed on Two Close Aides of Nafiz Sarafat

Dhaka: A court here today ordered a travel ban on Padma Bank’s Executive Vice President M Khaled and CSO Md Shariful Islam, two close aides of the bank’s former chairman Chowdhury Nafiz Sarafat. Senior Special Judge of Dhaka Metropolitan Zakir Hossain passed the order upon a petition of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ACC in its petition stated that Nafiz Sarafat has accumulated a significant amount of money through bribery, manipulation, misuse of power, and deceit involving the bank’s customers, subsequently siphoning the funds abroad. Sarafat is currently residing overseas.

Khaled and Shariful have been actively managing the interests of Nafiz Sarafat within the country during his absence. To ensure a thorough inquiry against Sarafat, the ACC argued that it is essential to prevent the two aides from leaving the country.
