Minister Sudi Expresses Government’s Commitment to Ensuring Rights of Sexual, Gender Minorities


Kathmandu: Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens, Nawal Kishor Sah Sudi, has stated the government’s commitment to enhancing the rights of sexual and gender minorities. Inaugurating the ILGA Asia Conference 2025, organized by the Blue Diamond Society, the Minister emphasized the importance of cooperation among government, civil society, international partners, media, and communities to reform policies, institutionalize rights, and bring positive societal change.



According to National News Agency Nepal, the Minister highlighted collaboration and mutual understanding as crucial foundations for advancing gender equality. He stressed the participation of communities in building an inclusive society and reaffirmed the government’s dedication to improving human rights and achieving equality.



Minister Sudi also underscored the necessity of creating a safe space for sexual and gender minorities, noting the importance of social, legal, and psychological environments in this regard. He affirmed every person’s right to express their identity and sexual orientation, be free from discrimination and violence, and achieve equality. He stated that the Ministry is the official body to respond to the voices and issues of sexual and gender minorities.



Manisha Dhakal, Executive Director of the Blue Diamond Society, urged the State to implement constitutional provisions concerning the rights of sexual and gender minorities.
