Kathmandu: The Nepali translation of the ‘BRI Blueprint’, a comprehensive document detailing the achievements of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) spearheaded by the People’s Republic of China, was unveiled at a function in the capital on Tuesday. The event marked a significant step in Nepal’s engagement with the BRI, highlighting the potential benefits the initiative holds for the country.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the Nepali Congress leader and former Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala, along with other dignitaries, inaugurated the Nepali version of the BRI Blueprint at a program organized by the Friends of the Silk Road Club Nepal. The organization undertook the translation of the blueprint, originally published by the Chinese government to showcase a decade of achievements through BRI cooperation.
The book delves into various critical topics such as Chinese global proposals, historical legacies, practical responses, and principles guiding future-oriented development and prosperity. It emphasizes multi-sectoral connectivity, benefits to participating countries, economic globalization, global governance reforms, and the necessity for BRI cooperation in promoting human civilization.
During her speech, Koirala emphasized that the BRI presents an unparalleled opportunity for Nepal, expressing optimism about its potential to enhance the nation’s physical infrastructure and economic prosperity. She highlighted the importance of access to international trade routes for a landlocked country like Nepal, noting that the BRI could play a pivotal role in facilitating such access.
Koirala remarked, “The main goal of the BRI project is development and mutual benefit. It has given a message of hope for the future with sustainability, but the expected benefits have not been achieved from its implementation in Nepal. The main reason for this is the misunderstanding of BRI.”
Adding to the discussion, Mahendra Subedi, Senior Editor at the National News Agency (RSS), pointed out that the BRI concept has paved a new way for humanity to embrace modernization and has ensured efforts towards building a collective future for the global community. He noted that BRI cooperation has delivered tangible benefits to participating countries over the past decade, contributing to robust development through economic globalization, solving global development complexities, and enhancing global governance.
