Home Minister Orders Probe into Suspicious Death of Woman in Siraha

Siraha: Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak has instructed the police administration to conduct a thorough investigation into the death of 24-year-old Anandi Devi Sadaya from Jagatpur, Nawarajpur rural municipality-3 in Siraha district.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Sadaya, who was sexually assaulted four months prior, was found deceased in her home on Tuesday. Home Minister Lekhak has expressed serious concerns regarding the incident and has called upon Inspector General of Police Deepak Thapa to investigate the facts surrounding the case, as stated by the Home Ministry Secretariat.

Sadaya was reportedly assaulted by Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, 22, and Shyam Sundar Yadav, 32, from Bariyarpatti rural municipality-1 in Siraha on December 24, 2024, during a visit to her elder sister. District Police Office Siraha Chief and Superintendent of Police Anantaram Sharma indicated that a case has been registered against the alleged perpetrators for attempted extortion, although no arrests have been made. The District Police Office is intensifying its investigation into the matter.

“A case was registered against them on March 9. The perpetrators are absconding right after the incident. Although a search for them is challenging since the perpetrators are hiding in India, the police administration is constantly carrying out its investigation,” Superintendent Sharma stated. He also visited the incident site to meet with the victim’s family.

Superintendent Sharma further noted that Sadaya, who leaves behind a two-year-old daughter, had been residing with her parents for the past year. Her body was discovered hanging at her parents’ house when no one was present. The deceased’s body has been sent to the Provincial Hospital in Lahan for a post-mortem examination, as confirmed by the police.

A comprehensive investigation into the incident continues, as reported by the District Police Office.
