Lalitpur: CPN (UML) General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has clarified that the UML was not targeting any specific group or individual through its Republic Day celebrations on May 29. Addressing a gathering of party department members at the UML Central Office in Chyasal, Lalitpur, Pokharel emphasized that Republic Day is the biggest celebration for the Nepali people and is observed as a victory for the populace.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Pokharel stressed the importance of incorporating the topic of republic-democracy into the school curriculum. He highlighted the need for the new generation to understand the establishment of democracy-republic in Nepal, which was achieved through significant sacrifices and an extended period of struggle.
The General Secretary’s statements come amidst discussions about the political implications of such celebrations, aiming to assure that the event is meant to be inclusive and reflective of the nation’s democratic journey.
