Jhapa: Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has emphasized the need to increase women’s access to and presence in the media sector in Nepal, as their current representation remains limited. She highlighted this issue during a program organized by Nari Sanchar Griha, Jhapa, asserting that enhancing women’s presence in media is crucial for their empowerment.
According to National News Agency Nepal, former President Bhandari acknowledged that while women’s involvement in Nepal’s media landscape is gradually improving, it remains insufficient. She pointed out the lack of women in key roles such as news writing, editing, and policy-making within media organizations, stressing the importance of mainstreaming women journalists.
Bhandari emphasized the significant role women play in voicing women’s concerns through media platforms. She noted that women in media can report on women’s issues with greater sensitivity, as their reporting is informed by their own identities and experiences. Furthermore, she commended the dedication and competence demonstrated by women journalists in their work.
In addition, former President Bhandari presided over the release of a book titled ‘Women in Media,’ published by Nari Sanchar Griha, Jhapa.
