RPP Rejects Allowance for Boycotted Parliament Meeting

Kathmandu: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has announced that its lawmakers will not accept the allowance for the parliamentary meeting held on June 15.

According to National News Agency Nepal, RPP Chief Whip Gyan Bahadur Shahi stated that the party boycotted the meeting on June 15 and has officially informed the Federal Parliament Secretariat of their decision to forgo the meeting allowances. The RPP’s protest during the meeting was driven by their demand for an investigation into the Home Minister’s alleged involvement in a ‘visit visa’ scam. Despite their protest, the meeting proceeded, prompting the RPP to decide on a boycott.

The RPP’s parliamentary party convened a meeting to formalize the decision to reject the allowance associated with the boycotted session. In a letter addressed to the Parliament Secretariat, the RPP parliamentary party emphasized that accepting the meeting allowance on that particular day was neither morally nor ethically appropriate. The letter requested that the allowance be returned to the state treasury as revenue.
