House of Representatives Postponed Amid Ongoing VISA Scam Dispute

Kathmandu: The House of Representatives is scheduled to meet on the coming Thursday as the ongoing turmoil over the visitor VISA scam continues to impede parliamentary proceedings.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the meeting of the lower house today was postponed by Speaker Devraj Ghimire to Thursday after the Rastriya Swatantra Party MPs persisted in obstructing the House over the visit VISA scam. The disruption reflects the deepening division within the parliament, as the scandal continues to stir controversy.

The HoR was originally scheduled to convene at 1:00 pm today but was unable to proceed despite repeated rescheduling by the parliament secretariat. The inability to hold the meeting underscores the challenges faced by the legislative body in navigating the political impasse.

It is noteworthy that the ruling CPN (UML) and the main opposition, CPN (Maoist Center), reached a two-point agreement aimed at resuming the functioning of the House. However, this accord has not quelled the dissent from the Rastriya Swatantra Party and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, who continue their obstruction. They are demanding an investigation committee and the resignation of the Home Minister over the visitor VISA scam, further complicating the situation.
