Myagde: Myagde rural municipality in the district has constructed and handed over 48 houses to needy families within the municipality.
According to National News Agency Nepal, this initiative was part of the ‘Model Housing Programme,’ specifically aimed at aiding landless families across all seven wards and those living in inadequate housing conditions.
Chief Administrative Officer Narayan Prasad Adhikari explained that the project was financed with a total of Rs 10 million, sourced from the equalization fund of the federal government and matched by the rural municipality for the fiscal year 2080/81 in its first phase. Initially, 16 houses were built in the fiscal year 2080/81 BS, followed by an additional 32 in the current fiscal year 2081/82 BS. The construction was carried out by Pasa Shukla JV Construction Company at a total cost of 27.35 million.
The distribution of houses was as follows: seven houses each were constructed in ward numbers 1 and 2, six in ward number 3, eight in ward number 4, six houses each in ward numbers 5 and 6, and eight in ward number 7. The rural municipality’s Chairperson, Shree Prasad Shrestha, noted that the allocation of houses to families was based on recommendations from the respective wards.
To preserve the integrity of the program, a stipulation has been made that the houses cannot be sold, mortgaged, or rented for a period of 10 years. In instances where beneficiaries were landless, neighbors generously donated land, while some beneficiaries already possessed their own plots. Sukman Shrestha of ward number 7 expressed gratitude, stating the community was very pleased with the municipality’s efforts to provide housing.
