Patan: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has urged everyone to incorporate yoga into their daily routines, emphasizing its significance in promoting a multidimensional aspect of human life.
According to National News Agency Nepal, PM Oli, while addressing a function organized by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology on the occasion of the 11th International Yoga Day under the theme ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health’, stated that yoga is inherently linked to humanity and peace, serving the welfare of mankind and global harmony. He highlighted that yoga is integral to achieving a ‘happy Nepali and prosperous nation’, while also underscoring the importance of discipline in practicing yoga.
The Prime Minister expressed concern over the diminishing sense of discipline in Nepali society, noting that without discipline, meditation is unattainable. He emphasized that focusing on good intentions is the essence of yoga and that combining yoga with intellect is vital in today’s world.
PM Oli remarked on efforts to integrate yoga into everyday life, stressing the importance of balanced diet, yoga, and rest for good health. He argued for the necessity of consuming pesticide-free food to ensure a healthy population, advocating for disease prevention over treatment.
Reflecting on his tenure as Prime Minister, Oli reiterated the slogan ‘be healthy’ for national success. He suggested that adopting non-violence, truth, discipline, and happiness, along with healthy living, is achievable through yoga.
The Prime Minister stressed the urgent need for peace globally, asserting that non-violence is crucial. He urged people to cultivate pure and holy thoughts, maintaining that yoga is essential not only for individual health but also for societal harmony. Carelessness, he warned, could lead to frequent hospital visits, while yoga and meditation offer pathways to a fulfilling life.
Oli extended best wishes on Yoga Day and recounted the mythological history of yoga, attributing its origins to Lord Shiva, known as Adiyogi. He also shared a personal anecdote about his time in jail, where he was only given tranquilizers leading to renal failure, and emphasized that while meditation is beneficial, it is not a substitute for necessary medical treatment.
The event also featured remarks from Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Rajhuji Panta, who advocated for promoting yoga as a cultural heritage, and Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, who linked yoga to Nepal’s cultural identity, positioning Nepal as a global yoga destination.
Yoga guru Professor Dr. Dipak Regmi highlighted the scientific advancements in yoga, asserting that it can lead to health, peace, and happiness. The event was attended by numerous government officials, yoga gurus, practitioners, and related organizations.
