Kathmandu: Lawmakers have stressed the need to end the tradition of passing the annual budget unchanged. It is wrong to pass the budget without even changing semicolons and full stops.
According to National News Agency Nepal, during the House of Representatives meeting, Ram Hari Khatiwada expressed his concerns about the budget allocation across various ministries. He emphasized that the budget should not be approved without making necessary revisions, such as changes to semicolons and full stops, and that adequate discussions should be conducted post-announcement.
Khatiwada insisted on correcting the mistakes and weaknesses observed in the budget. He also highlighted the importance of maintaining the current provision of providing a senior citizen allowance starting at the age of 68.
In addition, Ram Krishna Yadav called for the government to rename the Urban Development Ministry to the Rural Development Ministry. Meanwhile, Bijula Rayamajhi pointed out discrimination against lawmakers under the proportional system and urged the government to increase the budget for women and children sectors.
Surya Prasad Dhakal and Mukta Kumari Yadav also advocated for necessary corrections in the budget.
