Kathmandu: Minister for Education, Science and Technology Raghuji Pant has emphasized that affiliated institutes of the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) must align their nursing programmes with the growing student population. This directive was presented during the 208th Council meeting of the CTEVT on Tuesday, where Minister Pant highlighted the importance of preparing a unified proposal to be submitted to the cabinet for policy decisions. This proposal aims to facilitate collaboration with public hospitals under both federal and provincial governments.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Paudel also addressed the meeting, stressing the necessity of coordinating with provincial hospitals rather than those under the federal government. He noted existing complexities in applied health practices and advocated for policy changes that would allow Certificate and Bachelor level nursing students to gain practical experience in a single hospital setting.
The meeting also featured participation from secretaries of various ministries, the vice chairperson of the Medical Education Commission, and other officials from the CTEVT. Dr. Anjani Kumar Jha, Vice-chairperson of the Commission, proposed the establishment of a general hospital for nursing practice instead of specialized institutions.
The Council’s discussions extended to other issues, including changes in the names of educational institutes, ownership transitions, location shifts, resumption of suspended programmes, institutional adjustments, authority allocations, and the completion of affiliation and approval processes.
