Former President Dr Yadav Calls for Upholding Medical Ethics

Chitwan: Former President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has urged medical professionals to uphold medical ethics, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing reputation over financial gain. Inaugurating the acute oncology service at the BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital, Dr Yadav criticized doctors who prioritize money over ethical practice.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Dr Yadav stressed that doctors and nurses providing quality service are appreciated and promoted by patients. He highlighted that reputation should precede financial considerations in any profession and encouraged medical staff to maintain courteous behavior and deliver high-quality services to patients.

Dr Yadav also shared his personal experience as a prostate cancer patient, revealing that he had to travel to Japan for a PET scan due to the unavailability of such facilities in Nepal at the time. He recounted his efforts to allocate Rs 360 million for purchasing the necessary equipment, which unfortunately went unused as the government failed to acquire a PET scanning machine. He expressed satisfaction in knowing that the government is now taking steps to procure essential medical equipment.

Furthermore, Dr Yadav praised the progress achieved by the federal republic, noting that 12,000 out of 36,000 local-level representatives come from Dalit, indigenous, women, Madhesi, and marginalized communities. Dr Shivaji Paudel, the Executive Director at the hospital, reflected on the 25-year journey of learning and workforce training in cancer care. Chief oncologist Dr Guru Sharan Shah provided insights into the features of the newly inaugurated acute oncology service.
