Minister Proposes New Terminology for Police Ranks

Kathmandu: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has proposed naming the rank from office assistants to head constables in the Nepal Police Service as “Basic Level.” During a meeting of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the House of Representatives, Minister Lekhak suggested that “Basic Level” would be a more suitable term than “lower rank” for these personnel.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Lekhak emphasized the significance of these roles, noting that a substantial number of personnel in these positions are deployed in the field. He highlighted that there is a significant presence of constables and head constables within the Nepal Police.

Minister Lekhak further mentioned that the government aims to prioritize these personnel in the upcoming Police Act, focusing on enhancing their facilities and recognizing their contributions at the basic level.
