Govt Must Safeguard Rights of Nepali Workers Abroad: Minister Bhandari

Kathmandu: Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security, Sharat Singh Bhandari, has emphasized the Nepal government’s responsibility in safeguarding the rights of Nepali workers abroad. Addressing a programme organized by Paurakhi Nepal in the federal capital, Minister Bhandari highlighted the necessity of the government’s attention in ensuring the protection of these workers’ rights, regardless of their status and the countries they work in.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Bhandari pointed out that many Nepalis have gone abroad through various means, including illegal channels, and some have been defrauded in the process. He stressed that the rights of all these workers must be protected. The Minister asserted that the state cannot shirk its duty to work for the welfare of Nepali laborers abroad. However, he acknowledged that the government’s efforts alone are insufficient to resolve the problems facing the Nepali workforce and employment sector. He called for systematic governance of labor migration to address these issues effectively.

Minister Bhandari also expressed concern over the exodus of Nepali youths, which is leading to a depletion of both human resources and capital within the country. He noted that this migration results in a lack of opportunities for work within Nepal, urging a need for comprehensive solutions to retain the youth and capitalize on their potential domestically.
