Call to Protect Chure Region to Safeguard Life in Madhes

Lalgadh: Stakeholders have expressed serious concerns over potential risks facing Madhes Province if the Chure region is not conserved. At an interaction program organized by the Ministry of Forest and Environment, speakers emphasized the need to conserve the Chure region, warning that life in Madhes could face a crisis due to continuous extraction and overuse of the area.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister for Forest and Environment of Madhes Province, Sanjay Kumar Yadav, highlighted that uncontrolled extraction, deforestation, and the impacts of climate change have adversely affected the forest and environment of the Chure region. Minister Yadav noted that the forest status in Chure and Madhes is in the red zone and requires urgent conservation efforts.

Minister Yadav stressed that government efforts alone are insufficient for conservation and called on the general public and civil society to contribute to these efforts. He also urged journalists to focus more on forest conservation issues.

Participants at the event expressed concerns about the increasing trend of tree felling in recent years under the guise of infrastructure development. Conservationists from all eight districts of Madhes Province, along with environmentalists, local representatives, and media persons, attended the event.

Officials from the Ministry of Forest and Environment shared their views and committed to intensifying collective efforts to conserve the forest areas and the Chure region.
