Narayanghat: The Narayanghat-Butwal road section along the East-West Highway experienced a complete shutdown after a landslide swept away portions of the road this morning. The incident has caused significant disruption to travel and transportation in the area.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the landslide, triggered by rain, led to the Khursani Khola river at Bardhaghat-4 near Dauune washing away sections of the road, resulting in its obstruction. DSP and Information Officer at the District Police Office, Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Susta Paschim), Bir Dutta Panta, revealed that a westbound freight vehicle is currently stranded on the road due to the landslide.
The freight truck has been partially buried under debris, as confirmed by DSP Panta. Efforts are ongoing to clear both the truck and the debris now that the rain has ceased. Approximately 50 meters of the road, which is undergoing an upgrade to four lanes, have been affected. Even minimal rainfall tends to disrupt vehicular movement in this section.
In addition, landslides have obstructed various locations along the Siddhartha Highway. The rain-induced landslides have blocked roads at Burtang-Siddhababa and several other areas. Local authorities have advised travelers to exercise caution and stay alert, as landslides and falling rocks continue to pose threats along the Siddhartha Highway.
The authorities have also restricted vehicles from traveling on several road sections, including Siddhababa-Ramdi, Tansen-Ridi, Rampur-Humin-Tahu-Aryabhanjyang, Hathork Chahara-Tingire, and other major auxiliary roads.
