Rasuwa Flash Flood: Death Toll Reaches 11, 862 Evacuated

Rasuwa: The death toll in the flash flood that struck Rasuwa on Tuesday morning has reached 11. Prior to this, nine bodies were recovered and an additional two bodies were retrieved from the lower belt of Trishuli River, according to Central Police Spokesperson DIG Binod Ghimire.

According to National News Agency Nepal, 862 people, including those trapped in the flooding and those stranded mid-way due to traffic obstructions after the disaster, have been evacuated to safety. Among the 11 recovered bodies, only one has been identified, with several bodies found in a maimed condition.

An update from the Police Headquarters in Naxal, Kathmandu, indicates that 19 people are still missing. Among the missing, the body of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Lal Bahadur Shrestha has been recovered. The deceased bodies are currently kept at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital. Over 1,300 security personnel have been mobilized to conduct rescue operations, and the search for the missing continues.

The flash flood in the Lhende Stream along the Nepal-China border in Rasuwagadhi swept away the Miteri Bridge and damaged the Customs Office at Rasuwagadhi. The road toward Timure from Dhunche has suffered extensive damage, with 24 containers, six trucks, and 42 electric vehicles swept away by the flood.

The preliminary findings of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology suggest that an outburst of a supraglacial lake along the upper catchment of the Lhende stream led to the flash flood.
