Kathmandu: The National Information Commission (NIC) has launched the ‘RTI Management System’ today to strengthen the implementation of citizens’ right to information.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Chief Information Commissioner Dr. Suresh Prasad Acharya inaugurated the pilot phase of this new system at a program organized by the Commission. The initial phase allows citizens to request information from federal ministries, constitutional bodies, central commissions, departments, and departmental offices online. The system includes a provision for appeals if the requested information is not provided.
Chief Commissioner Acharya emphasized the plan to gradually extend this system to three-tier governments, public bodies, and nationwide. This initiative eliminates the need for information seekers to email respective bodies, allowing them to request information directly from public bodies through the system.
The Commission has already briefed right to information campaigners about the new system, covering aspects of requesting information and the appeal process if information is not provided.
