Chairman Dahal Calls for Electoral System Reform to Combat Corruption

Kathmandu: Chairman of the CPN (Maoist Centre), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, has emphasized the urgent need for reforming the current electoral system to combat corruption. He made these remarks while receiving a memorandum from the Nepal Voters’ Rights Forum.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Dahal highlighted his party’s consistent advocacy for amending the electoral system as enshrined in the constitution. He pointed out that the expensive nature of the existing electoral system is a significant contributor to escalating corruption. Dahal proposed a fully proportional parliament and a directly elected executive presidential system as necessary reforms.

He further called for full inclusion and proportional representation based on population demographics. Addressing the concerns raised by the forum, Chairman Dahal expressed his positivity towards these suggestions and urged preparedness for a movement if needed to push for systemic change.

Dahal remarked, “This initiative of the forum is positive. Change is not possible just by making the leaders understand these demands and suggestions. If it is necessary to establish the demands and issues of the people, we are ready to campaign, you should also be prepared for that.”
