Lalitpur: The CPN (UML) has officially passed a proposal to eliminate the 70-year age limit and the two-term cap for party leadership positions. This decision was reached during a secretariat meeting chaired by party chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

According to National News Agency Nepal, UML assistant general secretary Pradip Gyawali confirmed that these decisions were finalized as part of an amendment proposal to the party’s statute. The proposal, presented by party vice-chairman Bishnu Prasad Paudel, is set to be discussed at the party’s second statute convention scheduled for September 5-7 in Lalitpur.

Following the amendment proposal’s presentation, it will proceed to a politburo meeting today and subsequently to a central committee meeting for further consideration. The UML is also set to expand its leadership structure to include 15 office-bearers, an 84-member politburo committee, and a 251-member central committee.

Gyawali further explained that the party will categorize its members int
o two groups: general members and organized members. The implementation of these new decisions is contingent upon their approval at the upcoming statute convention.
