Upper mustang: Livestock farmers suffering from leopard attack have been provided relief amount for the loss.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the National Nature Conservation Trust, the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), and the Area Conservation Office, Lhomangthang distributed the relief amount to the farmers from Upper Mustang. Chief of ACAP Lhomanthang Office, Umesh Paudel, informed that Rs 1.1 million was distributed in relief to the farmers who incurred losses in their livestock due to leopard attacks in the last fiscal year.
Out of the total, 43 percent of the loss in attacks was provided as relief, while the remaining amount served as additional assistance. The Office is making preparations to ensure relief amounts are provided within a few months of the loss caused to livestock. Notices are issued frequently for the farmers to claim compensation.
Paudel further informed that a human-wildlife conflict fund was being set up in response to the rising number of incidents. The National Park and Wildlife Department provided the relief amount through ACAP, in accordance with the Wildlife Loss Directive, 2080.
