Lalitpur: The CPN UML leaders have said the meeting held between UML Chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former President Bidya Devi Bhandari was positive.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the two leaders held the meeting at UML headquarters, Lalitpur for one and a half hours on Sunday. The meeting comes at a critical time when debates are surfacing in the party and the political milieu regarding the appropriateness of former President Bhandari’s return to party politics. The discussion between these top figures is expected to help quell the ongoing debate.
Senior Vice Chairman Ishwor Pokhrel mentioned that Chairman Oli had informed the party’s politburo meeting on Saturday about his discussion with the former President. He noted that the meeting held on Sunday was positive and added that the General Secretary of the party had already informed about the renewal of Bhandari’s membership to the party.
With the UML central committee meeting scheduled for Monday, the meeting between Oli and Bhandari is being observed with keen interest. Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai remarked, “It is not good to advocate for or against any leader or faction in the party. So, rather than outside debates, the harmonious discussion held between party Chairman and former President will help settle the issue.”
The central committee meeting is expected to address the key agenda of amending the party statute.
