Heavy Rainfall Pummels the Nation: Lumle Records 151 mm in 12 Hours


Kathmandu: Heavy to very heavy rainfall has been recorded across various parts of the country in the past 12 hours.



According to National News Agency Nepal, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has reported the highest rainfall of 151 mm in Lumle, Kaski.



In addition to Lumle, significant rainfall levels have also been observed in Dhankuta with 121 mm, Sunsari with 130 mm, and Maipokhari, Ilam with 121 mm. The Department has indicated that these four locations have experienced extremely heavy rainfall. Many other districts have also seen substantial precipitation.



Meteorologist Sanjeev Adhikari noted that a weather system responsible for the heavy rainfall is advancing towards the central and western regions. He mentioned that this pattern is expected to persist until tomorrow before gradually dissipating. The monsoon winds are affecting the entire country.



Several other districts have also experienced heavy rainfall, including Sindhupalchowk, Kaski, Parbat, Okhaldhunga, Taplejung, Panchthar, Tanahun, Khotang, Solukhumbu, Sankhuwasabha, Terhathum, Myagdi, and Jhapa. The hilly areas in these and other districts have also reported significant rainfall.



Meanwhile, the Floods Forecasting Division has alerted that the water level at the Modikhola Hydrometer Station in Parbat district is nearing the alert level. Residents near riverbanks and coastal areas have been advised to remain vigilant and take precautions.



Additionally, the water level in Kankai Mainachuli in Ilam approached the alert level this morning, and in Sunsari’s Sardul Khola, it surpassed the alert level. The Budhi Khola Duhabi Hydrometer Station in Sunsari sounded the siren at 1:20 am as the water level exceeded the danger threshold.
