Kathmandu: The Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee of the House of Representatives (HoR) has directed the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers to prepare the Universal Periodic Report (UPR) along with Nepal’s human rights status to be submitted at the United Nations Human Rights Council. The parliamentary Committee has mandated the Prime Minister’s Office to submit the report to the Committee and relevant agencies.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the directive was issued during a meeting presided over by Committee Chairperson Bimala Subedi. The directive emphasizes the need for a timely submission of the report to ensure it reaches the concerned agencies ahead of the 4th cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), scheduled to take place in Geneva, Switzerland, in January 2026.
The Committee’s directive aims to assist the government in facilitating the process by incorporating discussions and recommendations from Committee members. It has also instructed the government to include commitments and recommendations from the first to the third UPR cycles in the report.
Further discussions were held between the Committee and the Prime Minister’s Office regarding the implementation of the third cycle of the UPR and preparations for the upcoming 4th cycle.
