Hindukush Himalaya Parliamentary Meeting Scheduled for Climate Action Dialogue

Kathmandu: The Hindukush Himalaya Parliamentary Meeting is set to take place on August 18-19 in Kathmandu. The primary aim of this meeting is to address global issues including climate change, air pollution, and environmental concerns.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the meeting will be coordinated by the parliamentary Committee of Agriculture, Cooperatives and Natural Resources, with the support of the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD). Participants will include representatives from countries within the Hindukush Himalayan region such as Nepal, India, China, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Chiefs and members of parliamentary committees from these countries will also partake in the discussions.

Additionally, representatives from high-ranking agencies focused on climate change from countries without a parliamentary system will attend the meeting. Their objective is to forge collective climate action. To prepare for this, the Committee of Agriculture, Cooperatives and Natural Resources convened a meeting with secretaries, joint-secretaries, and climate experts to discuss logistical and coordination aspects related to the HKH meeting.

Furthermore, President Ramchandra Paudel is expected to inaugurate the meeting, as shared by the organizing committee.
