Committee Sets Seven-Day Deadline for Progress Reports on Directives

Kathmandu: The House of Representatives, Education, Health and Information Technology Committee has decided to seek progress reports on the status of implementation of its directives to various government agencies in the last fiscal year 2081/2082. The decision was made during a committee meeting held at Singha Durbar, where it was determined that the concerned agencies have seven days to respond to these directives.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Committee Chair Ammar Bahadur Thapa emphasized the importance of obtaining detailed updates regarding the directives issued to various bodies during meetings held throughout the last fiscal year. The meeting saw the participation of Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung, Communications Secretary Radhika Aryal, and representatives from the Ministry of Law and Justice.

The committee also directed the Ministry of Communications to provide clarification on issues raised related to the Information Technology and Cyber Security Bill, 2082, and the Social Media Bill, 2081. These issues surfaced during discussions on the Media Council Bill. The Ministry of Communications has been instructed to address these matters in the committee’s next meeting.

Committee Chair Thapa further noted that the Media Council Bill would soon be finalized. This will occur after consultations with experts and the formation of a subcommittee dedicated to clause-wise discussion. During today’s meeting, it was also decided to establish a subcommittee for this purpose. The coordinator and members of the seven-member subcommittee will be announced in the upcoming meeting.
