Securing Single Party Majority Challenging in Current Electoral System: NC President Deuba

Dhading: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has highlighted the challenges of securing a majority for a single political party under the current electoral system, which emphasizes inclusion and proportional representation. Deuba made these remarks during a condolence gathering held on the 13th day following the passing of former NC President in Dhading, Bharat Prasad Upreti, at Dhunibesi municipality-7.

According to National News Agency Nepal, President Deuba stressed the necessity of ending factionalism within the party to foster an environment conducive to achieving a majority in future elections. He underscored the importance of unity and collaboration within the party ranks to effectively navigate the complexities of the electoral system.

NC Vice-President Dhanraj Gurung also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the need to eliminate the practice within the party where leaders attempt to undermine each other if they are not selected for election tickets. Gurung warned that such internal rivalries could weaken the party, advocating instead for healthy competition to strengthen its prospects.

Additionally, NC central committee members, including Gopal Man Shrestha and Sashank Koirala, along with NC Dhading president and Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Ramnath Adhikari, praised the late leader Upreti’s contributions to party building. Upreti, born in 1985 BS at Naubise of Dhading, passed away at the age of 97 during treatment at Kathmandu-based Civil Service Hospital on Asar 28.
