Tansen: Minister for Water Supply, Pradeep Yadav, has announced that the government will fully invest in providing drinking water to citizens. Addressing the 10th annual general meeting of the Tansen Drinking Water Consumers’ Committee in Palpa, Minister Yadav declared that a previously imposed tax on drinking water would be removed.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Yadav outlined that the federal government will cover 85 per cent of the investment required for the drinking water supply, with the remaining 15 per cent to be financed by provincial or local governments. This decision comes under the “people’s water, government’s investment” concept, emphasizing the government’s commitment to ensuring drinking water as a fundamental right for all citizens.
Minister Yadav highlighted the ministry’s efforts to engage 42,000 consumers’ groups across the nation, working collaboratively to guarantee access to safe drinking water. He reiterated that the government is responsible for providing this essential service and underscored its importance as a pillar for sustainable development.
In light of climate change and the drying up of water sources, Minister Yadav emphasized the need for conserving water resources. He also committed to funding the construction of water tanks in Tansen, with a capacity to store 5 million liters of water, to help alleviate the local water crisis.
