PM Oli Inaugurates Extended Rani Jamara Kulariya Irrigation and Hydropower Project

Kailali: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli inaugurated the extended irrigation, hydropower project, and transmission line under the Rani Jamara Kulariya Irrigation Project on Tuesday. The inauguration marks a significant milestone in the development of Nepal’s water resources and rural agriculture sector.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the irrigation project has the capacity to irrigate 14,300 hectares of land. Additionally, a 4.71 MW hydropower project and a transmission line were brought into operation as part of this development. This event signifies the completion of the project’s second phase and its extension into the third phase.

With the completion of the second phase, electricity generated from an irrigation canal at Katashe of Janaki rural municipality-9 in the Kailali district has been connected to the 33 KV transmission line. The third phase of the project is anticipated to provide irrigation facilities to Bhajani, Joshipur, Bardagoriya, and Ghodaghodi rural municipalities in the district. Meanwhile, the second phase caters to the irrigation needs of Tikapur, Lamkichuha, and Janaki rural municipalities.

Prime Minister Oli described the project as a historic achievement for Nepal, emphasizing its role in enhancing rural life, agricultural production, and self-reliance in energy and food security. He noted that the Rani Jamara Kulariya irrigation facility began with the collective efforts of local farmers using traditional skills over 120 years ago. The project’s evolution into its current state is attributed to the active participation of the local community and effective government coordination.

During the inauguration, PM Oli urged relevant authorities to expedite the completion of other national pride projects, including Sikta, Babai, Mahakali III, Bheri-Babai, and Sunkoshi Marine Multipurpose Projects.
