Madhesh Water Crisis: Power for Irrigation to Cost Only Rs 3 Per Unit


Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has announced a new electricity tariff for irrigation in the drought-affected Madhesh Province, setting the cost at Rs 3 per unit. This initiative is part of a broader effort to address the water crisis in the region.



According to National News Agency Nepal, Prime Minister Oli shared on his social media account that the government has commenced the project of digging 500 deep borings in the Tarai region. This measure is aimed at providing much-needed relief to the farmers suffering from the severe drought conditions. The reduced electricity cost is expected to support agricultural activities by making irrigation more affordable.



The Prime Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to alleviating the water shortage challenges faced by farmers in Madhesh Province. The initiative to dig deep borings and provide subsidized electricity is a significant step towards ensuring sustainable water management and supporting the agricultural sector in the region.
