Khotang: Coinciding with the ‘First National Millet Day-2082’, the Shubham Foundation Diktel Khotang has initiated the commercial production of ‘millet biscuit’. The foundation has introduced the ‘Diktel Millet (Kodo) Biscuit’ to the market.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the foundation has installed equipment purchased with a 50 percent grant assistance from Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadi Municipality. The biscuit, made from millet flour, ghee, milk, and sugar, is available in 100-gram packets priced at Rs 50.
The launch event for the biscuits, produced under the municipality’s indigenous crop promotion program, was attended by the chief of the District Coordination Committee Khotang Sanbahadur Rai, Chief District Officer Kalpana Shrestha, heads of the three security agencies, and ward-2 chair Solma Dhruba Bikram Rai, among others.
To mark the first National Millet Day, an exhibition was organized showcasing various millet-based food items, including the biscuits. The event was a collaboration between the Agriculture Knowledge Center Khotang, Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadi Municipality, and Shubham Foundation, featuring cakes, momos, cookies, selroti, dried bread, kheer, and tongba.
Executive Director of Shubham Foundation, Surya Bahadur Rai, stated that the production of ‘Dikhel Millet Biscuit’ meets the standards set by the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control. He emphasized that the commercial production aims to create employment opportunities by marketing millet-based products.
