Conflict-Free Society Is Only Imagination: Home Minister Lekhak

Kathmandu: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has stated that a conflict-free society is merely an imagination, highlighting the inevitability of conflict in human societies. Speaking at the inauguration of a seminar titled ‘Contemporary Challenges to Peace Environment in Nepal,’ Lekhak emphasized the importance of understanding and managing conflict as an integral part of societal existence.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Home Minister Lekhak remarked, “If someone says there is a conflict-free society, it is only imagination, not a reality. Where there is conflict, there is a solution. We have to understand conflict in a right way. Compromise is also the management of conflict.” He pointed out that the division of powers outlined in the constitution has led to conflicts within the country, particularly among local levels regarding the distribution of natural resources and border issues.

Lekhak noted that while the nature of conflict varies globally, it remains a universal phenomenon, persisting as long as society exists. He reflected on Nepal’s history, recalling the end of the armed conflict on November 21, 2006, which marked a transition from a society plagued by violence to one striving for peace.

The Home Minister also discussed the role of the constitution in reflecting the levels of instability, uncertainty, and conflict that the country has experienced. He mentioned that the constitution promulgated in 2015 is Nepal’s seventh, serving as a gauge for the nation’s journey through turbulent times.
