RPP Chair Lingden Advocates for Continuation of Citizenship by Descent for Non-Resident Nepalis

Birtamod: The Chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Rajendra Lingden, has demanded that non-resident Nepalis’ citizenship based on descent should be continued. In a press conference held today in local Birtamod by the district committee of the party, he argued that the citizenship on the basis of descent of the Nepalis living abroad should be continued to connect them to Nepal’s prosperity.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Lingden emphasized the importance of maintaining a bond between non-resident Nepalis and their homeland, despite them residing beyond the geographical boundaries of Nepal. He stated, “Nepal exists outside of Nepal also. The Nepalis living abroad are outside the geographical boundary of Nepal. They also care about Nepal.”

The RPP Chair further highlighted that the current provision preventing dual citizenship, which was implemented following the political change in 2006, has significantly impacted Nepali citizens of descent who have moved abroad for various reasons such as earning, studying, and seeking employment. Lingden’s remarks underscore a growing concern among diaspora communities about maintaining their ties to Nepal.
