‘5G Network’ Essential to Maximize Benefits of Information Technology: Minister Gurung


Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung has emphasized the critical importance of implementing the ‘5G network’ to harness the full potential of information technology. In a discussion organized by Nepal Telecom (NTC) concerning the implementation of the annual policy and programme for the fiscal year 2082/83 BS, Minister Gurung highlighted the necessity for immediate expansion of 4G network access to every household.



According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Gurung directed Nepal Telecom to manage the implementation of the 5G network. He indicated that expanding NTC’s network is integral to achieving the government’s digital framework objectives, enhancing digital governance, improving the efficiency of public services, and establishing better governance. Minister Gurung also assured Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli of initiating the 5G network this year and urged Nepal Telecom to prioritize its preparations, noting that while other South Asian countries have already adopted 5G networks, Nepal is lagging behind.



Minister Gurung called on Nepal Telecom to perform with sensitivity as an essential service provider and encouraged all stakeholders to diligently work towards realizing the action plan targets for the current fiscal year. Additionally, Secretary at the Ministry, Radhika Aryal, reiterated the need for Nepal Telecom to accomplish 100% of its targets. Directors from all seven provinces of NTC expressed their commitment to fulfilling their respective future action plans during the event.
