Eighteen Prisoners Including Sanjay Takla Recaptured After Escape from Nakkhu Jail

Dhulikhel: Eighteen prisoners who escaped from Nakkhu jail have been apprehended in Mangaltar in the district.

According to National News Agency Nepal, a team from the Area Police Office in Mangaltar, coordinated by the District Police Office, Dhulikhel, managed to capture 18 prisoners and detainees, including Sanjay Sah Takla, on the BP Highway. The arrested individuals are currently being held at the District Police Office in Dhulikhel, as confirmed by Police Inspector Dinesh Bahadur Kunwar.

Sanjay Sah Takla, recognized as the primary accused in the Janakpur bomb blast, was serving his sentence in Nakkhu jail, Lalitpur. Authorities are preparing to transfer all the recaptured prisoners back to Nakkhu jail on Thursday.

The escape followed a riot on Wednesday when detainees set the District Jail in Dhulikhel on fire. The prisoners vandalized and set fire to the facility, demanding their release, inspired by other jail escapes amid the GenZ protest. The jail currently houses 283 detainees.
