Prohibitory Order Eased in Siraha for Jitiya Festival Observance

Siraha: The District Administration Office in Siraha has announced a temporary relaxation of the ongoing prohibitory order to accommodate the celebration of Jitiya, a cultural festival predominantly observed by women in the Mithila region and the Tharu community. This adjustment allows for a three-hour daily relaxation from the regular seven-hour restriction period.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Chief District Officer Basanta Adhikari has confirmed that the prohibitory order, which is enforced for public safety, will be relaxed each day from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm for a few days. This relaxation permits local markets, known as hat bazars, and shops to operate during the designated hours.

Section Officer Santosh Raya from the Area Police Administration Office has stated that weekly markets and shops in Lahan will be open during the allotted time. The public is encouraged to conduct their market visits in an orderly fashion and return home immediately afterward. Authorities have issued a stern warning that any unlawful activities, such as looting or disturbances, will face strict legal consequences.

Jitiya is observed on Asoj Krishna Paksha Ashtami, which is the eighth day of the waning moon in the month of Ashoj. During this festival, devotees, particularly women, partake in a rigorous 24-hour fast, often refraining from drinking water, to pray for the health and longevity of their children. This year, the festival is set to occur on Sunday, September 14.
