Kathmandu: The government has announced a significant change in policy regarding the registration and renewal of online media, centralizing the process under the Department of Information and Broadcasting. Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jagadish Kharel, revealed this decision following a Council of Ministers meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM).
According to National News Agency Nepal, the previous administration had delegated these responsibilities to local administration offices. This change marks a return to a centralized approach, aiming to streamline the process under a single governmental department.
Additionally, Minister Kharel disclosed that he has been appointed as the spokesperson for the government. This cabinet meeting, the first with his participation, also made several other decisions affecting the communication sector. Details of these decisions are expected to be shared during the regular press conference scheduled for Friday.
