Kathmandu: The 13th Nepal Human Rights International Film Festival (NHRIFF) commenced today in Kathmandu, aiming to showcase films centered on human rights from across the globe under one roof. The festival, directed by Pandav Khatri, will run for five days, concluding on December 15, and will take place at the Film Development Board and Nepal Tourism Board auditoriums.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the festival is themed around ‘Children’s Rights’ and will feature 50 films from 26 different countries. Many of these films have previously participated in renowned international film festivals such as Cannes, Berlinale, Venice, and Busan. Khatri highlighted that the selected films would present human rights topics to the audience in an accessible and straightforward manner.
Khatri also mentioned some notable films that will be showcased at the festival. These include the ‘Palme d’Or’ (short film) winner ‘I Am Glad You Are Dead Now’ from the Cannes Film Festival 2025, ‘Navi Lili’, which made its debut at the same festival, and ‘Aajur’, the first feature film in the Bajjika language.
The NHRIFF organizers have arranged a variety of programs to complement the film screenings. Attendees can participate in interactive group discussions, view photo exhibitions, and enjoy ‘live painting’ sessions. These activities will take place in the presence of directors, producers, artists, and human rights activists.
