Badimalika: Seven wards of Badimalika Municipality have been declared free of the harmful practice of Chhaupadi, which involves banishing women to menstrual huts during their menstrual periods. This significant step is part of the municipality’s ongoing campaign to eradicate this practice and ensure the safety and dignity of women.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the municipality has made strides in its efforts to eliminate Chhaupadi, declaring all wards except Ward Nos. 1 and 7 as free from menstrual huts. This progress has been achieved through the ‘Deputy Mayor with Women Program’. On Wednesday, Ward No. 8 was officially recognized as the seventh ward to be free of menstrual huts, following the monitoring of 456 houses in the ward by Deputy Mayor Nanda Thapa.
The program stipulates that 90 percent of the houses in a ward must be free of Chhaupadi Goth to be officially declared as such. This initiative highlights the municipality’s commitment to ending the practice and promoting the well-being of women in the community.
