Bhrikutimandap: Senior Vice-Chairperson of the CPN (UML), Ishwor Pokharel, has underscored collective leadership in the party. In the closed session of the UML’s ongoing 11th National Congress at Bhrikutimandap on Sunday, senior Vice-Chairperson Pokharel urged all to strengthen collective leadership in the party.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Pokharel pressed for advancing the party through established norms and rules, emphasizing the practical implementation of the democratic concept proposed by party Chairperson KP Sharma Oli. He asserted that there is no alternative for the party but to progress by learning from its past experiences and weaknesses.
The leader, who is also a former Deputy Prime Minister, highlighted the need to review the weaknesses of the party, particularly when it was leading the government during the Gen Z revolt. He argued that if democracy within the party weakens, the entire system will be compromised.
On a different note, Pokharel expressed support for unity with those subscribing to leftist ideologies. During the closed session, a concept paper presented by Pokharel was distributed to the attending representatives from across the country.
The 11th National Congress of the UML commenced yesterday. Around 2,200 representatives will elect new leadership over the 3-day convention.
