Kathmandu: Voting for a new leadership through the 11th National Congress of the CPN (UML) is scheduled to be held on Wednesday morning. The voting, initially planned for this evening, has been postponed, shared Sanuraj Pokharel, Vice Chair of the party’s Central Election Commission. According to him, voting for the new leadership will begin at 8:00 am on Wednesday.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the delay occurred due to a problem with the electronic voting machine. Delegates had already lined up to cast their votes before the postponement was announced. About 660 candidates have registered for the new 301-member executive committee. The party plans to utilize 80 electronic voting machines for the election process.
A total of 2,263 delegates will participate in the general congress, which includes a notable contest for the position of chairman between current chair KP Sharma Oli and current senior Vice Chair Ishwor Pokharel.
